We have two Speed Indicator Devices (SID) in Bentley - on Capel Road (opposite Rowan Acres) and near Highfields.
Their purpose is to encourage drivers to adhere to the 30mph speed limit.
They both face incoming traffic to Bentley from the A12 (Capel Rd) and A137 (Station Rd).
However, they record data for both incoming and outgoing traffic.
Both SID displays work as follows:

Traffic at speeds below 9mph won't trigger the display and data is not recorded.
Outgoing traffic won't trigger the speed display but data will still be recorded.
Both SID's are powered by a pair of lead-acid batteries which are kept charged up by solar panels. This basically makes the SID's maintenance free.
